Atari and Arcade1Up Team Up For Legacy Machines

Atari has announced that they have teamed up with the folks over at Arcade1Up to bring Atari Legacy Edition game machines to the home.  Currently there are two machines available, the Centipede Legacy Arcade machine at $499.99 and the Tempest Legacy Arcade machine at $449.99.  Both of the machines come with a lineup of games as well as a matching riser for the unit and a light-up marquee.

The units have, for the first time in an Arcade1Up Legacy machine, WiFi Leaderboards which allows players to test themselves against family, friends and players from around the world.  The machines feature a 17 inch color LCD screen, adjustable volume, real-feel arcade controls, light-up 1P and 2P buttons, a molded coin door, a clear deck protector and an anti tip-over strap.  The machines measure in with dimensions of 22.85″ x 18.9″ x 57.8″

Centipede comes with 14 classic Atari games included, Centipede, Millipede, Asteroids, Asteroids Deluxe, Major Havoc, Missile Command, Akka Arrh, Crystal Castles, Tempest, Gravitar, Liberator, Space Duel (1 Player), Super Breakout, and Lunar Lander.  The Tempest model includes 12 classic Atari games, Tempest, Asteroids, Centipede, Major Havoc, Missile Command, Akka Arrh, Crystal Castles, Millipede, Gravitar, Liberator, Asteroids Deluxe, and Space Duel.

The Atari Arcade1Up machines are available for order now at Atari’s website.  You can check it out by clicking here if you are interested in scooping up one of these machines.  I will say I have wanted to pick up an Arcade1Up machine in the past but have not been able to pull the trigger on them but have seen them in action at friends houses.  The machines are well done and have a great nostalgia feel to them.  What have been your experiences with Arcade1Up machines?  Have you modded one before?  What do you think about the Atari team-up with Arcade1Up for Centipede and Tempest?  Let us know down in the comments below or hit us up on our Twitter account by clicking here.  As always stay tuned to Culture Splat for more content coming your way.  Don’t forget to check out our YouTube channel.  We have a new video releasing tomorrow!
