Marvel Studios Blade finds Director

Not too long ago, it was announced that Disney had delayed the upcoming Blade project from the planned release date of November 3, 2023 until September 6, 2024.  Production was essentially shut down as it was noted that in September, Director Bassam Tariq had left the project.  Well today, we have news that Marvel Studios Blade finds a new director to helm the Mahershala Ali project.

The Hollywood Reporter is reporting that Yann Demange will helm the project.  Demange has credits of ’71, White Boy Rick, an episode of Lovecraft Country and is currently in development on a series based on the 1981 David Cronenberg film Scanners.  It is also being reported that Michael Starrbury is taking over redoing the script and is now the third writer for the project.

While the director has changed for the film, Mahershala Ali is still set to play the character after his voice was heard in the post-credits scene of The Eternals.  Also in the cast is Delroy Lindo and Aaron Pierre.  Blade is set to close out Marvels Phase Five of the Cinematic Universe.

This will be the first foray of the character in the Marvel Cinematic Universe following the Wesley Snipes Trilogy at New Line Cinema which ended in 2004.  There was also a Blade television series in 2006 on Spike TV which starred Sticky Fingaz aka Kirk Jones.  Blade was created by Marv Wolfman (writer) and Gene Colan (penciller) and first appeared in The Tomb of Dracula #10 in 1973.

It is good to see that Blade is back on track as the project finds its director and new writer.  What are your thoughts on the new team working on this project?  What are your expectations of the Blade film?  What would you like to see from the character?  Let us know in the comments below or hit us up on Twitter by clicking here.  As always stay tuned to Culture Splat for more content like this and much more exciting content coming soon.
