TWAB February 9, 2023

The release of Destiny 2: Lightfall is creeping up fast on us.  You can check out the latest trailer for the new Strand subclass by clicking here or read the information by clicking here.  Today, Bungie has released the TWAB (This week at Bungie) for February 9, 2023.  Let’s dig in and see what they have to tell us!

Bungie starts off talking about the new Strand subclass with: If you ever thought to yourself, “Self, I’d really like to get my Spider-Man on but make it green,” then you’re in luck! Strand is swinging its way into Destiny 2 with Lightfall and letting Guardians know if they missed the trailer or want to watch it again, it is available to check out the beauty of Strand.

Latency Issues

Bungie started investigating latency issues in the game where you would see one or more players standing against a wall or not taking damage, teleporting or possibly killing you.  They have eliminated the new matchmaking changes as the root cause as it was happening in private matches as well.  Bungie notes that Valve has been making improvements to its Steam Datagram Relay (SDR) service to provide safe, high-quality Destiny 2 connections. They found new relays were not configured properly and severely impacted network quality between players during peak hours. The problematic relays were taken offline at 3 PM last Friday pending a more thorough investigation, and this appears to have resolved the immediate issue for players.  So Guardians should not have any issues right now with latency in games.  It is not a total fix but they said they found some additional bugs that will be fixed with Lightfall.

Strand Fashion

Continuing on in the TWAB for February 9, with the launch of Lightfall any items that changes appearance based on the equipped subclass will be compatible with Strand.  This includes Solstice Armor from past years, finishers and subclass emotes.  Check out the armor here:

The following armor and weapon perks will also be compatible with Strand, when applicable, come Lightfall:

Weapon Crafting

To integrate weapon crafting into the core economy of the game, Bungie is completely removing Resonant Elements from Destiny 2.  Standard currency like glimmer and enhancement cores will replace this.  The deepsight attunement objective will also be removed.  Resonant and Harmonic Alloys will still be used with the launch of Lightfall, but they will be overhauled.  Ascendant Alloys will remain the same for now.
