Fast X – Initial Reviews and Surprise Cameos

We just finished writing up how Vin Diesel slyly announced a twelfth film in the Fast and Furious Saga, you can check that out here.  Well Fast X initial reviews of the film are coming out and confirmations of surprise cameos are breaking as well in the film so spoiler warning if you do not want to go into the film knowing spoilers.

It has been a long time since the original The Fast and the Furious came out in 2001 and a lot has happened in the series.  Diesel left after the first only to return in a cameo at the end of Tokyo Drift and become a main player again.  We have had Han die and return in the series and lost Paul Walker in real life.  The films have also evolved from a movie about cars and racing to them being an elite squad of highly skilled (insert what is needed here) recruited by the government.

The latest film just had its premiere and initial screenings and the reviews are coming out from journalists who have seen the film.  Liam Crowley of Comicbook said “Fast X is utterly ridiculous (I loved every second).  Action sequences and one-liners left my face hurting from smiling so much.  Momoa is hilarious.  Ensemble rocks.  Cinema?  Please.  Peak summer blockbuster?  Hell yes.  Built for a popcorn-filled big screen experience.”  Eric Eisenberg of CinemaBlend called Jason Momoa’s character the Fast and Furious version of The Joker and a gleeful psycopath.  Kirsten Acuna of Insider said “It’s a wild, non-stop action thrill ride that delivers the most shocking ending of the franchise, so far.”

With some of the initial reviews out of the way, lets get to the cameos.  One that is not so much of a surprise due to her revealing it herself on Instagram, but Paul Walker’s daughter Meadow Walker is in the film

Now for the main event, Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson who had a very public feud with Vin Diesel and had said that he would never be in a fast movie again appears in a post-credits sequence, this is according to The Wrap.  After their beef has seemingly ended, Diesel went to Instagram to say that the series needed Hobbs back.  Johnson told CNN at the time “I told [Diesel] directly that I would not be returning to the franchise. I was firm yet cordial with my words and said that I would always be supportive of the cast and always root for the franchise to be successful, but that there was no chance I would return,” Johnson said. “Vin’s recent public post was an example of his manipulation. I didn’t like that he brought up his children in the post, as well as Paul Walker’s death. Leave them out of it. We had spoken months ago about this and came to a clear understanding.”

What do you think of the Fast X initial reviews?  Will you be seeing the film?  What do you think could have led the Rock back to the Fast Saga?  Does the Rock showing up make you want to see the film more?  His last few films have been lackluster at best and the issues with DC seem like a reason for a reset and go back to your roots.  Let us know your thoughts down in the comments or hit us up on our Twitter account by clicking here.  As always stay tuned to Culture Splat for more content coming your way!
