Halloween Timeline Breakdown Part Four

With the upcoming release of Halloween Ends this Friday, October 14th, I thought it would be a good time to go through and take a look at the different timelines of the Halloween franchise.  Coincidentally there are 5 distinct timelines within the Halloween Franchise, so today continuing on is part four of a five part series every day this week.  Welcome to Halloween Timeline part four.

Halloween timeline part four

This timeline completely throws out the previous films and is a reboot/re-imagining of the series now written and directed by Rob Zombie.  We have a new set of actors in this one with Tyler Mane donning the mask to play Michael Myers, Malcolm McDowell playing Dr. Sam Loomis, Scout Taylor-Compton as Laurie Strode and even a return of Danielle Harris now in the role of Annie Brackett.  Along side these characters we get a lot of Zombie’s mainstays in his films such as his wife Sheri Moon Zombie, William Forsythe and Sid Haig.

Halloween (2007)

We start out with more backstory on a young Michael Myers, now played by Daeg Faerch, who has a propensity to killing animals.  He is teased and kills a school bully in the woods.  On Halloween he kills his older sister Judith, her boyfriend and his mothers boyfriend Ronny but spares his younger baby sister.  Michael is sent to Smith’s Grove Sanitarium being looked after by Dr. Loomis.  Over his time at Smith’s Grove, he delves more into being silent and wearing masks.  While his mother is speaking with Dr. Loomis during a visit, Michael kills the nurse watching over him.  His mother, unable to deal with this kills herself.

After being in for 15 years, Michael breaks out and starts making his way to Haddonfield.  He is at a truck stop and kills Joe Grizzly in the most savage of ways while he is unloading his taco deluxe supreme.  He couldn’t even let the man finish his business.  He takes his clothes and heads to his abandoned childhood home to get his knife and mask.  He begins hunting down Laurie Strode (his baby sister).  While Michael has returned, he proceeds to kill Lynda and her boyfriend Bob, Laurie’s parents and Annie’s boyfriend Paul.  Annie is seriously injured but alive.  He captures Laurie and brings her to the house to show her a picture of them as kids with their mother.  Laurie stabs Michael and escapes.  Loomis arrives to help and shoots Michael three times but is subdued.  Laurie takes the gun runs upstairs and after charging her they both go over the balcony.  Laurie wakes up on top of an unconscious Michael aims the gun and shoots.

Halloween II (2009)

Following up on his 2007 film and continuing our look at the Halloween timeline part four, Zombie presents us with Halloween II in 2009.  This film picks up right after the last one with Laurie, Annie and Loomis being taken to the hospital for their injuries.  Michael is taken in another ambulance and after a traffic accident kills the paramedic.  We now go one year ahead and Laurie now without parents is living with the Bracketts.  Michael begins having visions of his mother telling him to get together with his sister, so Michael heads back to Haddonfield.  Laurie also begins have hallucinations including committing the murders that Michael has committed.  During this, Loomis releases another book about Michael Myers and tells that Laurie is really Angel Myers, Michael’s sister.  To blow off steam, she goes to a party with some co-workers.

Michael arrives at the party and kills one of Laurie’s co-workers, Laurie and her other co-worker Mya go back to Annie’s house after Laurie has more hallucinations.  They find that Annie has been brutalized and dies in Laurie’s arms.  Mya goes to call the police and Michael snatches her up and kills her.  Michael takes Laurie, who is unconscious after Michael flipped over a car she was in, to an abandoned cabin and as she awakens she and Michael has visions of her mother and she is being held down by a young Michael now played by Chase Wright Vanek.  Loomis gets to the cabin to try and help Laurie awaken from her hallucination and Michael wrestles with him depending on which version you are watching (regular or directors cut) you will see Michael stab Loomis get shot through the window and impaled with Laurie killing him and exiting the cabin wearing his mask or….  Michael grabs Loomis busts through a wall of the cabin and stabs him to death while speaking the word die (yes Michael speaks).  Michael is then shot numerous times by the sheriffs seemingly dead.  Laurie walks over picks up his knife and stands over Loomis as if she were to stab him.  The police shoot her as well seeming to kill her as we see Loomie, Michael and Laurie laying on the ground.  After the different endings we end up with Laurie in a psychiatric ward and has a visions of Deborah Myers ghost with a white horse and Laurie has a devious smile on her face.

Thoughts of the Halloween timeline part four

This re-imagining/rebooted version of the timeline is interesting for me.  I thought the first movie was done well to try and give more depth to the Michael character.  The second movie was a little meh for me.  Laurie having the visions, did not make a ton of sense as she didn’t know Deborah or what she would look like.
