Lego Pac-Man Anniversary Arcade Set

Very few toys and games spark that nostalgia feeling and really have a following like LEGO and Pac-Man.  LEGO’s are popular with pretty much anyone from kids to adult.  Pac-Man was the same way as it was a game that could appeal to absolutely anyone.  Today LEGO and Pac-Man have a partnership for the new LEGO Icons Pac-Man Arcade set.  This kit from LEGO celebrates the Pac-Man anniversary.

With the new set, you can take your self back to the 80’s and put together the set.  It has 2651 pieces, is rated for ages 18 and older.  The LEGO Pac-Man set features a mechanical maze that appears to move exactly like the real game by turning a crank on the side.  When turned, the characters move around the maze in a realistic way, thanks to triumphant engineering efforts.  “I would say 70% of the whole set development was devoted just to that mechanism,” explains Sven Franic LEGO designer.  You can lift off the back to expose the mechanism and see how the LEGO functions work in real time while turning the crank. Fans will also find a little surprise in the set: a mini eighties arcade scene with its own minifigure!

The set even includes a red light brick behind the coin slot to give it the classic illuminated look of arcade cabinets.  During collaborations with Bandai Namco Entertainment Inc. (owners of Pac-Man), Sven later found out that the yellow used on Pac-Man was inspired by the yellow color of LEGO bricks.  Seems like it was always meant to be!  The collection also comes with “colorful brick versions” of Pac-Man, Blinky and Clyde that when triggered, rotate on top of the cabinet.

The LEGO Icons Pac-Man Arcade Set will be available on June 1st to VIP members and everyone else will be able to get theirs on June 4th.  The kit will retail for $269.99 and can be ordered by clicking here.  What do you think of the LEGO Pac-Man Anniversary set?  Will you be grabbing one?  So far I have the 1989 Batmobile, Voltron and Optimus Prime and the Pac-Man may be added to that list too!  Let us know your thoughts down in the comments below or hit us up on our Twitter account by clicking here.  Stay tuned to Culture Splat for more content coming at you!
