August is a new month and right in the middle of the summer blockbuster season. With the new month comes a whole new batch of films releasing. There are a wide range from the summer blockbuster to streaming releases. Here are some big movie releases for August 2023.
August 1st
Untold: Jake Paul the Problem Child – Netflix. Whether you love him or hate him, he has a knack for staying in the spotlight. This documentary takes a look at the kid from Ohio who has taken the internet by storm.
Wednesday August 2nd
Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Mutant Mayhem – Theaters. A new TMNT film hits theaters today written by Seth Rogan and Evan Goldberg, we are getting a new take on everyone’s favorite mutant teenage turtles in this animated film.
Friday August 4th
Meg 2: The Trench – Theaters. Jason Statham is back fighting giant freaking sharks in a sequel to the 2018 movie The Meg. Notably missing from this one is Li Bingbing who was a major player in the first one.
The Collective – Limited Theatrical Release. This is a film about a group of righteous assassins called the Collective and stars Ruby Rose, Lucas Till, Tyrese Gibson, Don Johnson and Sasha Banks Mercedes Varnado.
Friday August 11th
The Last Voyage of the Demeter – Theaters. An upcoming film based on a chapter from the 1897 novel Dracula. It stars Corey Hawkins, Liam Cunningham and David Dastmalchian.
Heart of Stone – Netflix. This film stars Gal Gadot as Rachel Stone, who is an international intelligence agent. She embarks on a dangerous mission to protect “The Heart.”
Inside Man – Limited Theatrical Release. Stars Emile Hirsch, Lucy Hale, Ashley Greene, Bo Dietl and Robert Davi. This crime film follows a disgraced police detective seeking redemption by going undercover.
Friday August 18th
Strays – Theaters. A comedy film with a group of dogs getting into a bunch of trouble voiced by Will Ferrell, Will Forte, Jamie Foxx, Isla Fisher and Randall Park.
Blue Beetle – Theaters. The official start to the new Safran/Gunn DCU begins with Blue Beetle. The film stars Cobra Kai star Xolo Mariduena as Jaime Reyes, Susan Sarandon and George Lopez.
Back on the Strip – Theaters. The film follows Merlin who is hired as the front man of The Chocolate Chips, a male stripper group. The need to reunite to save the hotel and get Merlin his girl back. The film stars Wesley Snipes, Tiffany Haddish, Kevin Hart, JB Smoove, Faizon Love, Bill Bellamy and more.
Friday August 25th
Gran Turismo – Theaters. Based on a true story, it is directed by Neill Blomkamp and stars David Harbour, Orlando Bloom and Geri Halliwell Honer (Ginger Spice). The film is about a Gran Turismo gamer, Jann Mardenborough, who becomes a professional race car driver.
