Silent Night – A John Woo Film

Silent Night is a new holiday action movie that was written by Robert Archer Lynn and was directed by the legendary directory John Woo.  The movie will release on December 1st and stars Joel Kinnaman, Scott Mescudi, Harold Torres and Catalina Sandino Moreno.  There is a unique value to this movie, there is no dialogue in the film.  Check out the trailer below:

The official synopsis of the film is: From legendary director John Woo and the producer of John Wick comes this gritty revenge tale of a tormented father (Joel Kinnaman) who witnesses his young son die when caught in a gang’s crossfire on Christmas Eve.  While recovering from a wound that costs him his voice, he makes vengeance his life’s mission and embarks on a punishing training regimen in order to avenge his son’s death.  Full of Woo’s signature style, Silent Night redefines the action genre with visceral, thrill-a-minute storytelling.

The last film that John Woo directed is 2017 Manhunt.  I am excited to see what the director brings to us with a unique film.  In a Vulture interview Woo had the following to say about the film: “Very interesting movie.  The whole movie is without dialogue.  It allowed me to use visuals to tell the story, to tell how the character feels.  We are using music instead of language.  And the movie is all about sight and sound.  The budget was a little tight, and the schedule was tight, but it made me change my working style.  Usually, for a big movie, a studio movie, we shoot a lot of coverage, then leave it to the cutting room.  But in this movie, I tried to combine things without doing any coverage shots.  I had to force myself to use a new kind of technique.  Some scenes were about two or three pages, but I did it all in one shot.”  Woo is known for his action movies and some that come to mind are The Killer (1989), Hardboiled (1992) and Face/Off (1997).

This movie is definitely intriguing to me, What do you think of Silent Night directed by John Woo?  Is this a movie you will be seeing?  Let us know in the comments below or hit us up on our Twitter account (X).  As always stay tuned to Culture Splat for more content coming your way!
