Mattel Creations has had some real cool crowdfunded items in the past. The WCW Monday Nitro set is no exception, but it seems this one is destined to fail. The campaign kicked off on March 29th of this year and has a price tag of $400 for backers. Funding closes on May 5th (tomorrow) and right now the funding is only at 66% of the goal of 5000 backers.
If you have a fig federation or are a serious collector looking to put together a classic WCW shelf, this may be the last “official” option for you to jump on in and get the project over the hump. The initial goal of 5000 backers gets you the entrance stage and an Ultimate Edition WWE Hall of Famer Rey Myesterio and the Big Bad Booty Daddy himself Big Poppa Pump Scott Steiner.
If somehow this hits the goal by tomorrow, the next unlock would be for Diamond Dallas Page at 7000 backers, followed by the Ultimate Warrior at 9000 backers and finally the Immortal Hulk Hogan at 11,000 backers. I would have liked to see a more WCW associated person instead of the Ultimate Warrior in this set as an unlock during the process. When thinking WCW, so many more names come to mind like Sting or Lex Luger or Ric Flair. All staples of Monday Nitro!
I will say that the DDP figure to me is the best of the bunch. I mean it just looks amazing! It brings back a lot of feelings from the Monday Night Wars!
