Boba Fett Rare Prototype up for sale

Boba Fett is one of the most popular characters in the Star Wars universe.  He barely spoke any words and was not intended to be a major player in the movies.  Today there is a Boba Fett rare prototype action figure from 1978 is up for sale.  This is one of those figures that is considered a “holy grail” of collecting.  This is a prototype of the never released rocket firing Boba Fett.  The sale is happening on eBay right now.  You can check it out by clicking here.

The seller is from Dubai and according to ABC News wants to remain anonymous so the deal is being brokered by toy collector Zach Tann.  For those of you with some loose change just hanging around, the figure can be had for the bargain price of $225,000.  You can also see more about the figure in the video below:

The toy was designed by Kenner, who released the original Star Wars toy line.  The Boba Fett toy was intended to be released via a mail-in offer and was shown with the plastic rocket on his back that would really fire.  Due to safety concerns the toy was never released with the firing missile and only had the rocket molded in place into his rocket pack.  The unpainted prototype does come with a grading of near mint and according to the letter of authenticity was from a former Kenner testing technicians collection.  The current owner bought the figure for $140,000 in 2018.

Boba Fett had his first appearance in the Star Wars Christmas Special in 1978 and then appeared in the movies for the first time in Empire Strikes Back in 1980 and was seemingly killed in Return of the Jedi when he fell into the Sarlacc pit but he made it out alive.  There was a book series about him called the Bounty Hunter wars and with the new Disney + Mandalorian series being his next appearance, his love by fans does not seem to be waning.

Here you can see some of the images of the figure up for purchase:
