Scrapper – Comic Miniseries by Cliff Bleszinski and Alex de Campi

When you think of Cliff Bleszinski, the first thing you think of is CliffyB and Gears of War or at least that is what I think.  Well now add to that comic book writer.  Scrapper is a comic book mini-series which is releasing today that is written by Cliff Bleszinski and Alex De Campi with illustration work handled by Sandy Jarrell.  It is being released by Image Comics, which was famously started by Erik Larsen, Jim Lee, Rob Liefeld, Todd McFarlane, Whilce Portacio, Marc Silvestri and Jim Valentino in 1992.

Scrapper is a six issue comic mini-series that follows the titular hero Scrapper and his buddy Tank as they fight for justice against the totalitarian forces of a post-apocalyptic domed city.  The debut issue is drawn by the talented Sandy Jarrell, and issues #2-6 are illustrated by fan-favorite artists Ryan Kelly and Jordie Bellaire.  Scrapper also features cover art by award-winning artist Juan Ferreyra.  Following the launch of issue #1, the remaining five installments of Scrapper will be released monthly until the series wraps up in December 2023, followed by a collected hardback edition in early 2024.

I had a chance to read the first issue and I will say it was a quick read and a story that followed the superhero trope of something bad happens which causes this to happen.  The character of Scrapper pulled me in as a dog lover and wants me to see where he goes next in his quest.  Needless to say, I will be picking up the next five issues of Scrapper by Cliff Bleszinski and Alex de Campi.  If you are attending San Diego Comic Con this week, there will be two panels with Cliff and Scrapper.  July 21st from 5pm-6pm Cliff Bleszinski: Games to Comics and July 22nd from 3pm to 4pm Writing across Film/TV, Games and Comics panel.
