WWE Smackdown Recap and Reaction 6-12-2020

Last night WWE presented the first televised show since it was announced that Bruce Prichard would be in control of WWE Creative for both Raw and SmackDown.  Here is your Culture Splat WWE SmackDown recap for June 13th 2020.

We open up the last SmackDown before BackLash this Sunday with a recap of what happened with Jeff Hardy and Sheamus.  We are getting a contract signing between these two superstars, with a stipulation that Jeff Hardy must take a urine test prior to Sheamus signing.  I really do not like the path they are going down with Hardy exploiting his past issues.  Hardy has battled issues for quite a while and I just don’t see the benefit to exploit his past.  Knowing how Vince operates, this could be punishment for his brother leaving the brand for AEW.

Sheamus gives a public service announcement while Hardy is “peeing” in the jar and says if you are a user you are a loser like Jeff Hardy.  Jeff finishes and wow that is a full jar!  With constant insults from Sheamus, Hardy has had enough and takes the jar from the Dr.  He tells Sheamus sometimes it is better to be pissed off than pissed on and tosses the jar of urine in his face.  The “crowd” aka the NXT superstars at ringside chant you go pissed on.

Back from commercial, continuing on with our WWE SmackDown Recap and we see Sheamus in the bathroom rinsing himself in the sink and gargling water.  The Doctor comes in and lets Sheamus know that Hardy was negative in the piss test so it looks like we are having a match this Sunday.

The New Day (c) vs. Cesaro and Shinsuke Nakamura

Our first match of the night sees the Tag Team Champs taking on Cesaro, who in my opinion has not been used right during his entire run in WWE, and Nakamura.  For the majority of the match, Cesaro and Nakamura maintained control.  I would like to see Big E get a solo run, I think he has a lot to offer in the business.  The ending of this match was a little sloppy with Kofi coming off the top and not sure what was supposed to happen but it ended up with Shinsuke pinning the champs for the win.

Winners – Cesaro an Nakamura via Pinfall

We have a backstage segment with Otis and Tucker honing Otis’ senses to be able to cash in.  Mandy pops in the scene while Otis is blindfolded and kisses him.  He starts saying Tucky I dont know about and then his blindfold is taken off and he sees his beach.  She hands him his MITB briefcase and wishes him luck.  Tucky says Braun is their partner tonight but that Otis needs to be ready if he sees an opportunity to make it his night.  With that we are interrupted with the sounds of metal clanking and see Hardy and Sheamus battling backstage.  They get broken up and we head to commercial.

Corey Graves gives a brief history of the Intercontinental Championship and leads us to the match between AJ Styles and Daniel Bryan to crown the latest champion.  Man I miss the old belt, the new one definitely leaves much to be desired.

Daniel Bryan vs. AJ Style for the Intercontinental Championship

Next up on our WWE SmackDown Recap and I just want to start off saying this match was AMAZING!  We got a clinic between these two great superstars.  They really showed putting together a well thought out, thorough match.  Bryan maintained control for much of the beginning of the match.  The two go through a nice series of pinning combinations on each other.  Bryan focusing on the left arm of AJ Styles move after move and AJ Styles focuses on DB’s leg to slow him down.  The two of them really played off the “injuries” from the other working on their body.  After a styles clash and phenomenal forearm, AJ Style gets the W and is your new Intercontinental Champion.

Winner – AJ Styles via Pinfall

AJ is interviewed in the ring after his win and says he is the best WWE Champion the WWE Universe has ever seen and that he is Phenomenal!

We get a recap of Miz and Morrison pulling pranks on Braun and Braun flipping over their van.  Braun says that Miz and Morrison are going to get theirs on Sunday at BackLash and Tucker and Otis need to be careful if they are planning anything for tonight because he has no problem decimating Heavy Machinery.

We have an in ring celebration with the new Women’s Tag Champs Sasha Banks and Bayley.  They go on to tell us how great they are and are interrupted by Cross and Bliss.  The IIconics show up on the tron and tell Bayley and Sasha not to turn their backs to Nikki and Alexa.  They turn around and are quickly pummeled and tossed from the ring.

Main Event

Braun Strowman & Heavy Machinery vs. Miz & Morrison & Dolph Ziggler

The main event in our WWE SmackDown Recap is Strowman & Heavy Machinery vs. Miz, Morrison and Ziggler.  We kick off the match with Ziggler vs Ziggler but Ziggler quickly leaves the ring and Miz starts off by getting dragged in by Otis.  The action in the ring is interrupted by backstage footage of Corbin going up to Mandy.  Otis leaves ringside and runs backstage to attack Corbin.  Otis comes back to ringside with Mandy in tow and cleans house.  The Strowman Express makes the rounds and Otis hits the Caterpillar and pins Dolph for the win.

Winners – Heavy Machinery and Braun Strowman

Outside of the Daniel Bryan and AJ Styles match, the show was lackluster to say the least.  As a go home show prior to a pay-per-view it didn’t do much to build towards the matches for Sunday.  What did you think about the show?  You can let us know in the comments below or via our Twitter account by clicking here.
