Today the Walt Disney Company had a press release detailing upcoming changes to their streaming services. There will be a Disney+ price increase as well as a new ad supported tier.
Disney says on December 8th of this year, Disney+ will introduce an ad-supported subscription tier in the United States. “With our new ad-supported Disney+ offering and an expanded lineup of plans across our entire streaming portfolio, we will be providing greater consumer choice at a variety of price points to cater to the diverse needs of our viewers and appeal to an even broader audience,” said Kareem Daniel, Chairman, Disney Media & Entertainment Distribution.
What are those price points you might ask. Well Disney+ Basic (with ads) will be $7.99 a month which is what the service currently costs with no ads. The new price for the Disney+ service without ads will be $10.99 a month or $109.99 annually. This change will represent an additional $36 dollars a year for month by month subscriptions and $30 for annual subscriptions.
Disney+ is not the only service getting a price increase, Hulu and ESPN+ are as well. Hulu basic with ads will be going from $6.99 a month to $7.99 a month with the annual subscription going from $69.99 a year to $79.99 a year. Ad free Hulu will go from $12.99 a month to $14.99 a month with no annual subscription option. These Hulu changes will go into effect on October 10th of this year. ESPN+ will have its changes be effective August 23rd and will be $9.99 monthly up from $6.99 and $99.99 annually.
Bundles will still be offered for the services. The prices will be:
- Disney+ (ads) and Hulu (ads) – $9.99 per month
- Disney+ (ads), Hulu (ads) and ESPN+ – $12.99 per month
- Disney+ (no ads), Hulu (ads) and ESPN+ – $14.99 per month for existing subscribers only
- Disney+ (no ads, Hulu (no ads) and ESPN+ – $19.99 per month
Hulu and Live TV plans will have increases also:
- Basic (ads) – Disney+, Hulu and ESPN+ – $69.99 per month
- Legacy – Disney+ (no ads), Hulu (ads) and ESPN+ (ads) – $74.99 per month for existing subscribers only
- Premium – Disney+ (no ads), Hulu (no ads) and ESPN+ (ads) – $82.99 per month
