Should Bungie Separate Crucible From Destiny 2

Next Tuesday, August 23rd, season 17 – Season of the Haunted will come to an end.  Bungie will also be hosting a showcase that day about what is next for Destiny 2.  We will have a recap of all the news from the showcase so stay tuned here.  With that said, I think it is time to look at if Bungie should separate the crucible from Destiny 2.

Destiny 2 has 2 types of players, those who love PVP and enjoy playing the crucible mode and those who favor PVE mode and do the bare minimum within the crucible.  The bare minimum would include the 3 weekly games to get the pinnacle reward or the Iron Banner when it is around for the rewards.  Now when I say separate crucible I don’t mean break it out to a separate game or anything like that.  What I mean is that the requirements for such items such as weapon catalysts or seasonal quests or general weapon quests should not force players into the crucible.  I can hear the crucible players already saying “get good” but hear me out on this.

The suggestion I have for this would be to change the requirements for these items or quests where you need to complete task x in the crucible or task y in open world activities.  For example, last season we got the Lorentz Driver Linear fusion rifle.  One of the steps in the catalyst quest was to defeat 50 Guardians with the weapon.  This would require those players who do not like the crucible to have to partake in the mode and try and kill other Guardians with the weapon.  Most of the other Guardians would be players more versed in the crucible.  This could be changed for PVE players with a task like x number of kills on powerful enemies in strikes or other PVE activities that players complete.  This would allow those who enjoy the crucible to complete the quest as normal and those who do not another option for the completion.

Some of the complaints I have seen pop up within the crucible are issues with matchmaking and overpowered opponents.  Bungie will be looking into overhauling crucible in the upcoming season with a more skill based matchmaking that they provided some information on in the TWAB from July 28th.  In that release, they did not that they are striving towards a goal where all players can enter the crucible regularly be placed in a match where they feel competitive.  They will just be implementing this on Control and not to every matchmade crucible playlist.

I am curious to see what you all think on my idea of if Bungie should separate crucible from Destiny 2?  Let us know in the comments below or hit us up on our Twitter account by clicking here.
