Xbox Series S – Back In Black

This weekend Microsoft held their games showcase.  They had an Apple one more thing moment towards the end of the show.  They made an announcement regarding their lower power Xbox Series S system.  The Xbox Series S system will now come in carbon black and will have 1TB of storage.

The “new” system will launch on September 1st of this year.  It will retail for $349.99 which is $50 more than the white console with 512gb of storage.  If it were me launching this updated system, I would have dropped the existing system down to $250 and had the new one for $299.  Looking at the Xbox Series S black system next to the original white one, it definitely has a sleeker look and the “speaker” grill for the fan is not as present or eye catching.  Nothing else on the system was updated other than the storage space.  So limitations that the original Series S had would still apply, such as the VRAM issue we had reported on (click here to check it out).

The launch timing does line up with the game that Microsoft has basically put all of their eggs into its basket, Starfield.  The new system with more storage would be beneficial for that game because I am sure it will be taking up a ton of drive space.
