This morning Netflix has revealed some information about their upcoming Resident Evil show. The show is planned to center around the character of Albert Wesker. The headline of the announcement is that Lance Reddick is going to play Wesker in the show.
This is going to be a live-action Resident Evil series coming to Netflix. Albert Wesker is a character from the Resident Evil series. In the games he made his first appearance in the original Resident Evil game as the commanding officer of Alpha Team of the Special Tactics and Rescue Service (STARS). Throughout the series he became more power hungry and is revealed to be a double agent who works for the Umbrella Corporation.
In the live action films Resident Evil film series which stars Milla Jovovich, Wesker made his first appearance in Resident Evil: Extinction in 2007 played by Jason O’Mara and replaced by Shawn Roberts in 2010’s Resident Evil: Afterlife. This version of Wesker is the head of the Umbrella Corporation. This new Netflix series is not to be confused with the reboot film Resident Evil: Welcome to Raccoon City which is slated for release on November 24, 2021 and stars Tom Hopper as Wesker.

Lance Reddick, a well accomplished actor with notable roles in Oz, The Wire, The John Wick Series and as Commander Zavala in the Destiny video game series headlines the cast of what we assume is titled Resident Evil: New Raccoon City based on the wording in the release. The series will also star Ella Balinska (Charlie’s Angels), Tamara Smart (Are You Afraid of the Dark? and Artemis Fowl), Siena Agudong (Upside Down Magic, Alex & Me, F9), Adeline Rudolph (Riverdale, Chilling Adventures of Sbarina) and Paola Nunez (Bad Boys for Life).
The premise of the show is said to follow two timelines that focus on Wesker and his children and production of the show is said to be ongoing right now. We can assume that a debut of the show will be either late this year or early next year. With E3 this weekend and Capcom having a showcase on Monday at 2:30pm Pacific Time (You can get the full schedule for E3 here) maybe we will get a few more nuggets about this show.
